Primary Purpose:
Implements programs for health services for assigned campus; provides first aid and health services to students; assists RN to help with mitigation of communicable diseases; promotes health education and prevention for students; works under the guidance of campus Registered Nurse.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program Valid vocational nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State BON CPR Certification Certification for vision and hearing screening, spinal screening, and AN screening Experience Two (2) years of nursing experience Community health experience (preferred) Special Knowledge and Skills Strong assessment skills relating to student physical and emotional health Strong organizational skills Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills Ability to implement policies and procedures Proficient computer and typing skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. Assists with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. Helps maintain neat and orderly classroom. Helps with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment. Helps teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. Student Management Assists campus nurse by: Provides first aid and emergency care for student according to district policy. Advocates for student regarding health issues. Serves as a health liaison between school, physician, parents, and the community. Notifies parent of illness or injury. Obtains medical help for student in emergency cases if needed. Administers medication to students at school according to district policy. Provides health counseling to individual student. Communicates with the campus nurse regarding any health concerns. Documents and maintains accurate clinic records and updates as needed. Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations. Models behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Follows all rules, regulations, and policies of the Denton ISD and follows directives from superiors.
Other Related Duties:
Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Participates in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension
Lifting:
Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting no ambulatory students
Environment:
Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; occasional district-wide and statewide travel
