Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for the performance of generalized nursing services in the primary areas of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Family Planning. All work is performed under the administrative supervision of the Clinical Manager and the Bell County Public Health District (BCPHD) Health Authority.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supports and coordinates with medical assistants and clerks regarding clinical workflows, specifically within the scope of STD testing and treatment and family planning. 2. Precepts Students whereas applicable and endorsed by BCPHD Director through mutual memorandums of agreement or understanding with external organizations. 3. Utilize nursing processes & best practices to identify physical, social, and emotional needs of patients. 4. Process individuals' treatment care plans for patients and if needed, expedited partner therapy. 5. Performs appropriate tasks and functions within clinics within BCPHD as assigned through requirements and needs.Including but not limited to:
a. Rooming patients and interviewing patients. b. Obtaining vitals, gathering history, demographics, and other pertinent information. c. Documentation within appropriate EMR or non-EMR documentary practices. d. Perform screening tests through competency validation, education and experience, current nursing standards, Standing Delegated Orders (SDOs), protocols, and scope of practice. e. Performs follow up care, patient education and consultation regarding abnormal conditions, treatment plans per policy/procedures/protocols and SDOs. f. Provide lead and or assistance with triage of patient calls with oversight and verbal/written guidance of Nurse Practitioner to determine appropriate level of care by patient needs to facilitate both clinical and BCPHD requirements. g. Utilizes community relationships and preexisting BCPHD resources to assist clients in navigating healthcare services both internal and external to BCPHD. h. Provides medication according to agency policy and as ordered by a nurse practitioner under license and in accordance with health authority SDOs. i. Notify patients of laboratory results. j. Performs screening test including but not limited to; venipuncture, finger sticks, hemoglobin checks, Glucose checks, A1C and UA/Pregnancy. k. Collect and prepare basic laboratory tests and specimens. l. Required to assist in coverage at other sites as needed to ensure appropriate staff coverage throughout BCPHD to meet health needs. m. Quality Management (QM) process improvement and revision. n. Responsible for additional duties as assigned to meet BCPHD health requirements. o. Responsible for coordination responsibilities of STD prevention, diagnosis, and treatment between external and internal organizations such as DSHS and BCPHD Epidemiology. p. Responsible for other duties as assigned when identified by higher guidance and or authority of necessity of assignment. q. Ability to work semi complex maintenance checks and services on durable equipment such as 02 tank, A1C machine, Autoclave and digitized vital sign recording equipment. 6. Serve as part of public health emergency response efforts, as needed. 7. Performs other duties as assigned.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Knowledge and ability to perform procedures as appropriate to scope of licensure. 2. Ability to delegate and communicate effectively as member of team as well as ability to operate autonomously in absence of other clinical staff. 3. Working knowledge of clinical and office fundamentals. 4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 5. Ability to perform phlebotomy and operate multiple computer operating platforms. 6. Ability to multitask several concurrent medical systems. 7. Ability to record and communicate subjective and objective information completely in an accurate, literate, and coherent fashion when needed. 8. Ability to work weekends and hours after clinical closure to meet BCPHD needs.SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Current license is in good standing to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. 3. A state of Texas license or compact license. 4. One year's experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. 5. Bilingual preferred, not required. 6. Valid Driver's License 7. Requires ability to lift clinical supplies and equipment more than 10 lbs. 8. Prolonged standing, sitting, or driving may be required. 9. Increased risk for exposure to and possible transmission of vaccine preventable diseases. Why Join Our Team?
