Youth offenders are in cells at this facility All lock down units Main responsibility will be passing meds cell side. Security Officer will be with them at all times. They will be taken by vehicle to the other buildings where the offenders are and either an officer or administrative staff will drive them 140 med passes currently in the AM 115 med passes in the afternoon (this could change as they see the providers) Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Juvenile Corrections Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to provide specialized healthcare services within a juvenile correctional facility. This vital role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care to youth offenders, ensuring their health and safety while supporting rehabilitation efforts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in pediatric and adolescent health, along with experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs. Your expertise will contribute to creating a secure, supportive environment that promotes wellness and positive outcomes for young residents. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories, tailored to the unique needs of juvenile offenders. Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and other treatments following established protocols and safety standards. Monitor patients for signs of acute pain, infectious diseases, or behavioral health issues, providing timely interventions or referrals as necessary. Maintain accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Assist in discharge planning and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate continuity of care post-release or transfer. Provide health education and coaching to residents on topics such as hygiene, medication adherence, and wellness strategies. Support emergency response efforts by managing airway issues, performing basic life support (BLS), and assisting with urgent medical situations in a secure environment. Collaborate with mental health professionals to address behavioral health concerns related to trauma, dementia care, or developmental disabilities. Skills Proven experience in pediatric nursing, long-term care, or correctional healthcare settings with familiarity in juvenile populations. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques relevant to adolescent health. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate documentation and patient tracking. Ability to perform venipuncture, catheter care, medication administration, and sterile technique procedures confidently. Excellent assessment skills for triage situations involving acute pain management or infectious disease control. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health challenges including Alzheimer's or dementia care considerations. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards essential for maintaining privacy within correctional healthcare environments.
