Summary:
The LPN provides direct patient care with varying levels of illness and support services to the nursing unit under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The LPN is expected to practice within the scope of professional standards, and the rules and regulations established by the VA State Board of Nursing. The LPN demonstrates the ability to deliver care based on patient needs appropriate to age and developmental level. The LPN possesses a working knowledge of nursing principles. The position involves maintaining current clinical knowledge and competency for skills related to the clinical LPN role where assigned. Decision making is limited by hospital policy and procedures and based on scope of licensed practice. Routine responsibilities include providing bedside care to patient, performing nursing procedures, transporting patients, supplies and equipment, routine housekeeping duties and documentation of care and procedures performed. Accurately reports and documents in the Electronic Medical Record and electronic documentation systems that support the LPN's clinical and team member role. The LPN serves as a professional role model as a caregiver and resource for students, peers and other providers on the health care team. Must be able to wear a respirator mask and other personal protective apparel as indicated in the provision of patient care. Med Surg/Peds
  • The Med Surg/Pediatric nurse will demonstrate the above functions. The patient population served by this position includes pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Emergency Department
  • The ED nurse will demonstrate the above functions. The patient population served by this position includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Surgical Services
  • The outpatient/surgical nurse will demonstrate the above functions and will also exhibit competence with surgery and outpatient specific equipment: endoscopic equipment, laparoscopic equipment, and competence in laser safety.
Creates and maintains a sterile field. Gathers all surgical equipment for procedures and ensures it is in working order. Responsible for set up of the sterile field with proper instruments, equipment and medications for procedures and assists surgeon with draping the sterile field, as well as assists with gowning & gloving. Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon; prepares sterile dressings, holds instruments or retractors during procedures and participates in surgical count and processes specimens and discarded tissue. Cleans all instruments for sterilization. Nurses will cross train in the Outpatient, Pre-op teaching, PACU, and surgical settings. Responsibilities include clinical assessments, and after hours and weekend call. The patient population includes pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.   • The Inpatient Geropsych LPN will demonstrate the above.
Provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of patient care. Meets the communication needs of patient and family. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a registered nurse. Performs crisis intervention.
Patient population to be served:
Adult to Geriatric. 6 months to 1 year experience in a psychiatric setting preferred. Ability to work in emotionally charged situations. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Skilled Nursing & Inpatient Rehab
  • The skilled nursing & rehabilitation RN will demonstrate the above functions, serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for goal setting and carryover of the established team goals to achieve patients' highest level of function.
Communicates and consults with appropriate resources when needs are identified to ensure that quality care is provided. Provides patients' care and education ensuring inclusion of family/significant other/caregiver. Assists patient/family/caregivers to develop and prioritize goals related to function. Promotes quality of life to patients with disabilities. Provides comfort and therapy to patients and families. Promotes health conducive adjustments for the patient, family, and community. The patient population served by this position includes adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
Graduate of an approved nursing LPN program. Continuing education requirements as dictated by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Maintains certifications as required by the individual specific department. Must be able to complete job related competencies as deemed necessary to the performance of the LPN role in the nursing department of employment.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid and active LPN licensure from appropriate state.
AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS NRP
