Annual Salary:
$51,253 annually + $2.50/hour shift differential + $5,000 hiring bonus
Schedule:
Overnight shift, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM (includes rotating weekends) The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Crisis Services team. In this role, you'll play an important part in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges, working alongside a skilled and compassionate care team. This position is based onsite at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center and offers a supportive workplace culture focused on safety, collaboration, and ethical care. ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are living with a mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. The BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center is designed to serve individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. It offers a range of urgent care services, including therapy, medication management, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, the facility emphasizes a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As an LPN in Crisis Services, you will assist the staff psychiatrist with medication-related care, including administration, monitoring, and documentation. The program operates within a 16-bed residential facility serving adults in need of short-term stabilization due to acute mental health or co-occurring substance use concerns. Each client is provided a private room in a structured, supportive setting. Key responsibilities include conducting physical and mental health assessments, assisting with medication management (including methadone when applicable), and monitoring overall client well-being. You will also complete admissions and follow-ups, perform screenings such as drug and TB tests, and maintain accurate clinical records. Ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of medications is an essential part of this role, along with contributing to a safe and therapeutic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria: Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the Virginia State Board of Nursing One (1) year of experience in the administration of medication or a substance abuse treatment, psychiatric setting, or long-term care facility, including the dispensing of narcotic medication. Valid Virginia driver's license Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important, as this role involves direct client interaction, counseling support, and teamwork. Comfort with electronic documentation systems and attention to detail are also necessary for maintaining accurate records and ensuring quality care delivery.
