This position starts at the beginning of the year and goes through Winter Break. The position is 2 days per week.
Rates are 25/26 rates and will be adjusted for the upcoming year.
The position may be eligible for health benefits through the School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB) and retirement through the Department of Retirement Services (DRS) if it is anticipated that an employee will work 630 hours in a school year. This position would need to be combined with other positions or continued work to make this happen.
POSITION SUMMARY
This assignment provides first aid and administers authorized prescribed health treatments to people on school premise. Develops, organizes and coordinates school health services in the areas of student assessment, intervention, health counseling and health education and serves as liaison with private physicians and community agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administer first aid, authorized health treatments, and CPR/AED in accordance with established procedures to students, staff and persons on school ground
Administer medications as prescribed by physician and allowed by State regulation, which may include insulin, Diastat, etc.
Tube Feeding
Blood Sugar Monitoring
Clean Intermittent Catheterization (CIC)
Oxygen Management
Oral suctioning
Vital sign documentation
May be asked to teach these procedures
Prepare medications and medical treatments as prescribed by physician for field trips as allowed by state regulation
Maintain security of all medication
Prepare individual Health Care Plans and medically based 504 plan
May assist with physical therapy and occupational therapy routines, after training and then supervised by specialist, if applicable. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Transferring/lifting of student and use of adaptive equipment
- Positioning and facilitation of movement and range of motion
- Splint or Orthotic placement/removal
- Assistance with activities of daily living (e, feeding)
Maintain orderly and clean health room and maintain necessary health records (i.
e., immunizations, health room visits, et)
Provide medical/health/developmental information in Special Education evaluations
Maintain adequate health room supplies
Office duties such as updating and maintaining student records; assure that all records are kept in compliance with State regulations
Communicate with parents, physicians and staff regularly regarding medication and first aid and notify parent when medication refill is required
Fulfill assigned role in Emergency Preparedness Plan
May assist with diapering
May be required to ride the bus with medically fragile children

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Current Washington State Registered Nurse License (RN or LPN)
Must have current First Aid Certification and CPR card
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have basic computer skills and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm in crisis or emergency situations
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
Ability to deal compassionately with a variety of students
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to perform duties in accordance with all District and State requirements and policies
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works inside and is exposed to infection (germs/bacteria/viruses). The employee must occasionally, but essentially, work outside and is exposed to gases, fumes, sprays, etc.
