Job Description

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - Correctional Facility Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to provide quality nursing care within a correctional healthcare environment. The LVN will work collaboratively with physicians, registered nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare staff to deliver comprehensive medical services to an incarcerated population while maintaining safety, security, and professional standards of care.
Schedule PM Shift:
3:00 PM - 11:30 PM Every other weekend required Rotation of 3 major holidays and 3 minor holidays annually Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately and safely. Monitor patient health status and report significant changes to the Registered Nurse, physician, or other appropriate healthcare provider. Conduct patient assessments and document findings in the electronic medical record. Assist with intake screenings, sick call, chronic care clinics, and emergency response situations. Perform routine nursing procedures, including wound care, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, and medication administration. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of all patient care activities. Educate patients regarding health conditions, medications, and treatment plans. Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and correctional facility security procedures. Collaborate effectively with correctional staff and healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care. Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and assist with emergency interventions as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations and facility policies. Qualifications Required Current and unrestricted Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the applicable state. Current CPR/BLS certification. Ability to work effectively in a correctional environment. Preferred Previous correctional healthcare experience. Experience in medical-surgical, emergency, behavioral health, or public health nursing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and standards of care. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in challenging situations. Proficiency with electronic medical records and documentation systems. Commitment to providing respectful, patient-centered care while maintaining facility security protocols. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the facility during the shift. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and perform required nursing duties. Work Environment This position is located within a secure correctional facility. The LVN will work closely with healthcare professionals and correctional staff to provide safe, effective, and compassionate patient care while adhering to all security and operational requirements.
