Job Description
Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant / PFT Coordinator plays a dual role in providing direct clinical support and managing Pulmonary Function Testing at The Lung Center. This position includes routine medical assistant duties such as patient intake and scribing, while also holding primary responsibility for the operation, scheduling, and documentation of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs). The individual in this role ensures timely, accurate testing and communication with patients and staff to support high-quality pulmonary care.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
Greet and prepare patients for visits; obtain and record medical history, medications, and vital signs. Assist with clinical procedures and patient care as directed by the physician. Scribe during patient visits, entering data accurately into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of exam rooms and clinical areas. Perform walk tests and document results in the EMR. Administer injections as directed by the physician and within scope of certification. Assist with in-office X-ray coordination and related documentation. Perform blood draws for specialized testing, including Biodesix, and ensure proper labeling, documentation, and submission. Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)Management:
Serve as the primary staff member responsible for conducting Pulmonary Function Tests. Operate and maintain all PFT equipment according to clinic protocol and manufacturer guidelines. Interpret basic test outputs to ensure quality and completeness before review by the physician. Schedule PFT appointments directly with patients, ensuring efficient time management and coordination with physician schedules. Track and follow up on PFT results to ensure timely review and documentation. Maintain accurate logs and documentation of all performed tests and any relevant clinical notes. Maintain a daily PFT testing volume consistent with clinic demand (approximately 10 patients per day during peak periods). Schedule annual follow-up appointments for patients completing PFTs to ensure continuity of care and timely reassessment.Administrative Responsibilities:
Schedule additional procedures and follow-up appointments as needed. Collaborate with front office and clinical staff to ensure coordinated patient care. Assist with EMR documentation, inventory maintenance, and back-office duties as needed. Complete and respond to ANY inquiries related to CPAP, CIPAP, Trilogy ventilators and oxygen (ex. PT Requests, phone calls, faxes). Order and maintain clinical supplies through McKesson or designated vendors to ensure adequate inventory levels. Schedule and coordinate sharps container pickups in compliance with OSHA regulations.Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all HIPAA, OSHA, and clinical safety standards. Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold all professional ethics and conduct expectations. Participate in ongoing training, compliance updates, and clinic meetings.Education:
High School diploma or equivalent (Required)Experience:
Experience with EMR systems (Preferred) Previous experience obtaining vital signs and assisting in a clinical setting (Preferred) Prior experience with Pulmonary Function Testing or willingness to be trained (Required)Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent (Preferred) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Must be able to obtain)Pay:
