Job Description

Position Summary:
This position supports AAAI Providers and Physician Assistants in the delivery of patient care, helping to ensure timely, patient-centered care. They work closely with other healthcare professionals to communicate with patients and maintain patient confidentiality.
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT OUR MESA LOCATION. REQUIRED - YOU MUST HAVE A MEDICAL ASSISTANT DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATION.
Reports To:
MA Coordinator Principal Duties and Responsibilities Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, anticipating patient and provider needs by assuring the room is clean and equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies. Review patient charts to identify any special needs or missing information. Obtain and record patient medical histories, vitals, test results, and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality. Confirm medications and key elements of medical history, document any changes. Assist the Provider with the exam as directed. Document services provided for billing purposes. Do diagnostic procedures as assigned. Document care delivered, and treatment plan prescribed. Provide patient education as directed. Preparing and administering medications for patients as directed by providers. Perform phone triage duties including documenting calls and messages. Give injections as prescribed, including immunotherapy per protocol. Review diagnostic tests by outside providers, document in the medical record and alert provider to positive results; notify patients of diagnostic results per protocol. Assist in obtaining prior authorizations for medications and services ordered by the provider. Maintain ability to meet all performance requirements regarding tasks and department goals. Ensure compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA. Assist with training new staff. Attend staff meetings as requested. Cross train in the allergy lab to be able to assist in both back office and allergy lab. Will be required to travel to other office locations when coverage is needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Possession of the clinical expertise and knowledge necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. Basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope. Should demonstrate excellent organizational abilities. Experience with allergy and asthma diagnostic procedures, ordered treatment, shots and related clinical terminology and documentation. Must be a self-starter with a positive, service-oriented attitude, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management. Ability to work in a team environment assisting co-workers. Deliver compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
Education Required:
Certification/Diploma from an accredited medical assistant program . High school diploma or equivalent. Experience Preferably two plus years of Medical Assistant Experience. Other Requirements Be able to complete AAAI administered clinical study guides and pass exams on clinical issues involved in Allergy and Asthma care as required by AAAI. Working Conditions OSHA Category 1 exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissue. Be able to be on your feet the majority of the time, occasionally sitting and operating general office equipment. Well-lit work area in a medical office.
