Works under the supervision of a designated school administrator to minimize student absences due to illness and to create a climate of health and well being in district schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the direct link between physicians, families, and community health care services and agencies to enhance the quality and continuity of health care for all students. Intervene, manage and/or refer students for health services as appropriate. Provide relevant health instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, teachers and others concerning a variety of acute, chronic health problems, first aid, diseases, and other health related topics. Uphold professional standards, state laws and district policy pertaining to health care. Coordinate school programs of immunization, and conduct physical assessments, vision, hearing and scoliosis screening as directed by the Arizona Department of Health Services. Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs. Maintain up to date cumulative health records on all students. Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters. Provide care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness. Administer First Aid in accordance with established procedures. Implement district policy on the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infections and contagious diseases. Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools. Obtain and interpret health and developmental history on each student upon entry into school. Participate as the health specialist on child education evaluation teams to assist in developing an individual education plan (IEP) if necessary. Plan and carry out school health management protocols for children with chronic health problems, including the administration of medication. Make home visits when necessary or appropriate to assess the family's health needs as related to a child's health. Provide crisis intervention for sudden illness, injury and emotional disturbances. Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through preventive immunization programs and early detection and reporting of contagion. Serve as a resource to the food service director on issues of nutrition. Help students gain insight into such problems as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and sexually transmissible diseases. Serve as a resource person to the classroom teacher and principal in health instruction and on health curriculum development committees. Demonstrate satisfactory work habits and attitudes. Follow district policies and procedures as adopted by the Governing Board. Perform other related duties as assigned by the designated administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Preferred certification as a Medical Assistant Experience in health care or related field Dependability
SCOPE AND SALARY
205 day contracted position based upon agreed salary with holidays and benefits according to district policy.
