DOE GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Medical Assistant interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information in patients charts. Responsible for medical charts, electrocardiograms, and some administrative duties in assistance to physicians. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients and ensures smooth transitioning between appointments. The Medical Assistant uses customer service skills and pleasant attitude to ensure the comfort of patients.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Documents medical histories, vital signs, and other patient related data in medical charts (i.e. pulse rate, blood pressure, height and weight, pharmacies, primary care physicians) Performs electrocardiograms, device monitoring, sleep study tests, and ABI's Obtaining patient medical records from outside facilities for scheduled appointments Exhibits understanding of EMR scanning and clinical procedures Aids physicians by performing some administrative duties and handling basic clinical tasks Documents new prescriptions and refills during appointments Obtains prior authorizations for medications Assists patients and providers with medication refills Maintains a neat and professional work environment Brings patients to the room in a friendly, timely manner, and providing any necessary assistance Stocks rooms and maintains cleanliness standards Additional duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE MA
Certification required One year experience as a back office medical assistant/MA preferred Knowledge of EClinical Works, EMR system, preferred High School Diploma or equivalent Travel is required Good oral and written communication skills including detail orientation and organization Must have CPR Certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing duties of the job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; talk and hear Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate This job description has been designed to outline the general nature and level of work performed.
