This position oversees quality maintenance and training in the administration of allergy serums and related injectable medications.
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT OUR SCOTTSDALE OFFICE - A MEDICAL ASSISTANT DIPLOMA / CERTIFICATE FROM AN ACCREDITTED MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM IS REQUIRED.
Reports To:
Immunotherapy MA Coordinator Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Demonstrate knowledge of and application of immunotherapy protocols. 2. Demonstrate quality patient assessments relative to wellness for administration of immunotherapy, including breath sound assessments. Transition patients to provider care who present with acute illness. 3. Review immunotherapy consents with patients and answer patient questions concerning immunotherapy. 4. Perform all safety checks per protocol for the administration of immunotherapy and other injectable medications such as Xolair. 5. Administer accurate dosing and appropriate injection technique, adhering to OSHA guidelines. 6. Execute accurate and safe patient care including emergency care related to a reaction to immunotherapy, assisting the provider as needed. 7. Monitor patients during the immunotherapy 30-minute wait period and assess at the completion of the wait period or sooner as needed. 8. Perform serum titrations and special testing appropriate in the immunotherapy department. 9. Communicate well with patients, staff, providers, and management. 10. Fill allergy test trays as needed and assist with the oversight of antigens and other immunotherapy department inventory. 11. Monitor for non-compliance and follow protocols for non-compliant patients. 12. Provide patient education as needed and appropriate. 13. Pull medication samples as prescribed. 14. Perform allergy lab related phone triage duties, documenting calls and messages. 15. Monitor temperature sensitive products and equipment. Maintain a safe and organized work environment. 16. Facilitate care and documentation per protocol for outside serum and outside providers. 17. Perform all safety checks and documentation for preparation of the allergy chart and serum. 18. Provide strong team support in all Medical MA assignments and attend staff meetings as requested. 19. Participate in training new staff to the immunotherapy department. 20. Assist in obtaining prior authorizations for medications and services as ordered by the provider. 21. Document services provided for billing purposes. 22. Cross train as a clinical medical assistant to be able to assist in both back office and allergy lab. 23. May be required to travel to other office locations when coverage is needed. 24. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 1. Possession of the clinical expertise and knowledge necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. 2. Demonstration of high-performance patient assessments prior to administration of immunotherapy injections, strict adherence to all safety protocols, and the knowledge to monitor patients for reactions and the associated treatment up to and including emergency care. 3. Experience with allergy and asthma diagnostic procedures, ordered treatment, and related clinical terminology and documentation. One year of experience in allergy / immunology preferred. 4. Must be a self-starter with a positive, service-oriented attitude, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management. 5. Ability to deliver quality patient care and customer service to a diverse patient population. 6. Demonstrate a high level of problem-solving ability. 7. Will be required to travel to other office locations when coverage is needed. Education Required - Graduation/Diploma from an accredited medical assistant program. High school diploma or GED Experience Preferably one year of primary care or allergy / immunology experience. Other Requirements Be able to complete AAAI administered clinical study guides and pass exams on clinical issues involved in Allergy and Asthma care. Completion of Level 1 and Level 2 Immunotherapy Lab Skills Career Ladders with a minimum of 90% of the ratings rated as High Performance (3) with the remainder of the ratings Solid Performance (2). Working Conditions OSHA Category 1 exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissue.
