We are a private optometry practice in Carlsbad, California, and we are hiring a full-time Medical Assistant / Optometric Technician to join our team. This is a key position in the office because the technician works closely with every patient and helps set the tone for the entire visit. We are looking for someone with a warm personality, strong energy, and a genuine desire to make each patient feel welcomed, cared for, and individually important. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, dependable, and able to perform medical testing accurately while helping the doctor stay on schedule. Prior optical or medical experience is helpful, but not required. We are willing to train the right person. Responsibilities The primary responsibility of this role is performing preliminary medical testing before the doctor exam. This may include autorefraction, eye pressure checks, retinal imaging, visual acuity testing, medical history review, and other entrance testing. Training will be provided.
Additional responsibilities include:
Monitoring the appointment schedule and helping keep patient flow on time Bringing patients back promptly and efficiently moving them through pretesting Answering phone calls and helping schedule appointments Looking for opportunities to help fill the appointment book Checking in glasses and contact lens orders between patients Assisting with glasses adjustments, frame selection, and optical sales when needed Supporting the team with daily office tasks to keep operations running smoothly Helping create a positive, professional, and welcoming experience for every patient Qualifications Bilingual in Spanish and English appreciated Friendly, outgoing personality and strong people skills Customer service experience preferred Ability to stay organized and work efficiently in a busy office Strong attention to detail Willingness to learn new skills Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset Medical assistant certificate welcomed but not required Prior optometry or optical experience appreciated but not required Compensation and Perks Employee discounts on products and services Discounts for immediate family members One free pair of glasses per year for employees Great work-life balance Professional, low-stress healthcare setting with great hours Opportunity to grow into additional roles within the office over time
