JOB PURPOSE The job purpose of a Medical Assistant at the Cancer and Blood Specialty Clinic is to provide exceptional patient care and support to medical professionals in the clinic. This role involves assisting with various medical procedures, performing administrative tasks, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The essential job functions of a medical assistant include, but are not limited to:FRONT OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
Greet patients, check-in and check-out Assist in the coordination of diagnostic tests, imaging studies, and hospital admissions Schedule appointments, link chemo treatments, coordinate referrals, and manage patient flow within the clinic Make sure patient's insurance and eligibility are verified Collect copays and any outstanding balances Manage and update patient demographics and records while maintaining confidentiality Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in the performance of work assignments and duties Communicating with patients, families, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care Review physician orders, test requests, tasks, or follow-up needs with patientsBACK OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures Take and record accurate vital signs, medical history, and changes to patient's physical status Assist in bone marrow biopsy Maintain supplies and cleanliness of examination rooms Review chart prep done by the CS team in advance to ensure accuracy Administer injections as needed Educate patients on common medications and treatments Update patient records including allergies, medication lists, and pharmacy information Perform any record add-ons or adjustments Handle clinical questions from patients regarding their care and treatments Complete and input MIPS (Merit-based Incentive Payment System) questionnaires with the patients Answer phone callsNote:
All MAs are cross-trained to perform both front and back-office duties, ensuring flexibility and continuity in patient care.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent Completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited institution OR Bachelor's degree in a related field OR minimum of 2 years as a medical assistant in an office or clinic setting Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant is preferred Previous experience working in a medical setting, particularly in oncology or hematology, is advantageous Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic medical procedures Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other medical software Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment Knowledge of infection control protocols and safety measures Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards Familiarity with cancer and blood-related conditions preferredWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Medical Assistant will work in an outpatient clinic setting during regular clinic hours The clinic may be fast-paced, with a high volume of patients and various medical procedures taking place The medical assistant may also be required to collaborate with other healthcare professionals and follow established clinic policies and procedures Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform medical procedures Visual acuity and ability to hear verbal instructions Ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as medical equipment or supplies Adherence to proper infection control protocols and safety measuresDIRECT REPORTS
The Medical Assistant at the Cancer and Blood Specialty Clinic does not have direct reports. However, they may collaborate with other healthcare professionals and work as part of a team to ensure comprehensive patient care.Job Type:
