Duties and Responsibilities:
Take patient's vital signs and records on patient's chart. Verifies patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, social history, family history, surgical history, current medications, and confirming purpose of visit (chief complaint). Needs to document in chart any new info at each visit. Flags these overdue tests/ preventive services - Write overdue tests and preventive service for provider to do. Enter them under test order in electronic medical records. Obtain the pharmacy name that the patient desires and enter information into electronic medical records accordingly. Write patient's name on patient's self-care plan for chronic disease, DM, HTN, Obesity, Asthma/ COPD and give patient appropriate health education hand-out, based on preferred language. Assists physicians and nurse practitioners with initial assessment of the patient upon admission, report changes of patients' conditions and other matters of concern for immediate resolution. Perform pulse oximetry, blood pressure/ heart rate, repeat if abnormal, EKG, urine dipstick, urine pregnancy test, PPD skin test, vaccines that were ordered (following standard protocol for medical assistants' procedure) prior to having patient ready to see the doctor/ provider. Carry out finger stick blood sugar test, finger stick hemoglobin, ear lavage, or give nebulizer breathing treatments to asthma patients when ordered by provider. Responsible for record keeping including x-ray reports and lab results. Enter tests/radiology orders into electronic medical records and place the order into the lab/radiology tracking folder (sorted by the due date of when these tests need to be done). Prepares and collects specimens for laboratory tests (when Lab Assistant is not available). Make a copy of the patient's self-care plan and scan into electronic medical records under the patient's notes upon discharging patient. Participates in pre-visit preparations (collecting all pre-ordered labs/ tests/ radiology results for provider to review and have these available prior to the next visit). Ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of the department, exam rooms, and equipment. Schedule appointments and/or follow-up appointments for patients. (Discharge patient) Obtains medical records from their specialists and/or former providers when necessary. Secure patient information and maintain patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records (i.e. closing computer/file, logging out, switching to correct patient) Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent, with medical assistant experience and/or education (i.e. Medical Assistant Certificate). Current basic life support certification (BLS) Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships. Good oral and written communication skills. Good computer skills, including MS Office and electronic medical records. Possess organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Prior Pediatric experience preferred, work well with kids.
