Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant in the Immediate Care Clinics performs basic technical, administrative and clerical services for a licensed Provider in compliance with Section 2070 & 2071 of the Business and Professions Code and Title 16 of the Medical Practice Act in the State of California. Professional Duties Administers medication, as ordered by the Provider, following the established policies and procedures and in accordance with the six rights of medication. A licensed Provider must verify correct medication and dosage prior to administration by the Medical Assistant. Documents all medications administered in patient's electronic health record (EHR). Performs electrocardiograms in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider. Applies and/or removes bandages, dressings, sutures, or staples in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider. Assists patients with ambulation and/or transfer using appropriate body mechanics. Performs non-invasive routine support services under the supervision of a licensed physician in an office or clinic setting. Prepares patients for examinations and/or procedures. (ex. posing, shaving, disinfecting site, etc.) Utilizing non-invasive techniques, collects and preserves specimens for testing in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider. Participates in quality control activities which include maintaining all office files as requested, including, but not limited to: Medication outdate check, refrigerator check (for temperature), and glucometer control check. Perform other duties as assigned. Serve as an ambassador for Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care at all times and positively shape the customer experience Introduce self and your role Be knowledgeable about your job so that you can serve others effectively Help others, offering to assist (Ask, how may I help you?) Be observant of others' social cues (emotions) and respond appropriately Speak clearly and use understandable language (avoid medical jargon or slang) Demonstrate appropriate body language and tone of voice Answer all phone calls with a salutation, introduction and offer to assist (Good afternoon, Desert Oasis Healthcare or Family Hospice Care, this is (your name), how may I help you?) Speak positively about your work, co-workers and Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care See the positive in situations and in others Avoid gossip and negativity Offer to answer any additional questions that the person, patient or customer may have Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent and graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Certified Medical Assistant certification required within 60 days of hire. One year of recent experience in a medical office/clinic, preferred. Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Good organizational skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with Providers, patients, patient family members and other clinic staff. BLS required.
