Summary:
Medical Assistant may provide services and tasks as allowed in, Business and Professionals Code (BPC) Sections 2069-2071 Title 22 California Code of Regulations (CCR), Section 70217 (m) CCR, and Title 16 (CCR) sections 1366-1366.4. Under the supervision of a licensed physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner working under a physician's written instructions. The MA may instruct patients about medication and self-treatment. They will prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations and sterilize and arrange instruments and equipment used in treatment and diagnosis. They will check office and lab supplies and keep the waiting, consulting, and examination rooms neat and orderly.
Qualifications:
Requires one year of experience in a clinical position with demonstrated competency in performing skills previous pulmonary experience preferred. Requires successful interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members in order to foster optimal quality of outpatient care. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physicians. Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems. NextGen Experience (preferred). Education/Certification High School Diploma or GED is required. California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. CPR certification.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Medical Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Retrieve messages and respond to calls from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, - medical offices as delegated by physician. Returned authorized messages from provider as delegated and documents information provided in the patient chart. 2. Faxes reports to hospitals, physicians and pharmacies. 3. Maintain patient flow in accordance with time of appointment or walk-in status in such a manner to avoid delays for the physician and undue waiting for patients. 4. Assist providers with all examinations and procedures with predictable outcomes routinely provided in the clinic. Follows orders and communicates results per provider. 5. Spirometry, six min walks, three part tests, alpha-1, anti-trypsin finger sticks, injections, TB results. 6. Perform (EMR) chart review prior to clinic visit to obtain historical data. 7. Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining and recording vital signs. Documenting/updating pertinent health information to EMR (i.e. chief complaint, allergies, medications 8. Provides basic patient education on the performance of routine tasks or skills. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills. 9. Provide patient with samples ordered by physician, and conduct teaching. 10. Refers questions to physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to the patient as directed. 11. Communicates with physicians and other members of the health care team. Documents and communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions. 12. Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas including: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. May assist with clerical, reception or medical records duties. 13. Support MA lead on new hires, process on EMR-physicians exam set up. 14. Reports Assessment findings to practitioner, and record on EMR system. Obtain additional data from patients and significant others based on initial Data collection. 15. Dispose of needles and other sharps in sharp containers according to procedures provided by the clinic. Disposes of any biohazardous waste in appropriate biohazard containers.

Prepare tickets scan all documents into EMR system 16. Maintain satisfactory, regular and predictable attendance by reporting to work as scheduled keeping unscheduled absences to a minimum. Determines priorities in workload and completes projects in an accurate and timely manner. 17. Ensure all communications reflect the standards and mission of PPMG 18. Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA and OSHA Guidelines. 19. Display a consistently positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional attitude 20.
