Thursday, July 2nd, 2026 About the Role Sun Street Centers is seeking a Medical Assistant II - Residential to support the day-to-day operation of a residential program in Salinas, CA serving individuals with behavioral health needs or involvement in the criminal justice system who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. This role helps maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment while providing medical observation, coordinating intake and discharge activities, and connecting participants with substance abuse referral resources. Core Responsibilities Support daily residential program operations and help maintain a safe, cooperative, and caring environment for participants Serve as a resource for alcohol and drug addiction information, treatment, education, and prevention in alignment with a social model of recovery Conduct registration and intake processes for referrals from hospitals, law enforcement, and behavioral health partners Complete intake documentation, check in clients, and document personal possessions, valuables, contraband, and program property Monitor clients in detox settings at required intervals and communicate urgent medical concerns to a supervisor and/or emergency services as appropriate Check and record client vitals throughout the shift and maintain accurate observation notes and related documentation Oversee prescription medication observation, assist with medication logging, and maintain medication sheets Monitor and secure the residential facility grounds, office areas, and program contents Support facility upkeep through light clerical work, intake packet preparation, laundry, restroom care, and general cleanliness Oversee family visitation processes and review orientation documents with visitors Prepare discharge paperwork, coordinate transitions to the next level of service, and arrange transportation for clients Provide crisis and emergency intervention as needed Perform additional duties or special projects that support program effectiveness Required Skills & Abilities Ability to effectively support adults and families with a strong service orientation Ability to handle crisis and emergency situations with sound judgment and self-restraint Ability to observe, evaluate, document, and communicate clearly in both verbal and written formats Comfort using a computer to enter observations and complete required documentation Knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction treatment, recovery, prevention, and the 12-step recovery process Ability to work with community resources, including hospitals and law enforcement Ability to communicate in a culturally competent and sensitive manner Ability to work calmly and consistently in a residential care environment Comfort following established procedures, safety requirements, and documentation practices

Third Shift, 9:00 pm - 6:00 am Employment type: Full-time or part-time Hourly rate of $25.81-$29.03 DOE and Licensure One year of experience in alcohol and drug addiction treatment, recovery, or prevention If in recovery, approved amount of time in continuous sobriety is required State certification in California as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Peer Support Specialist, SUD Counselor, or Emergency Medical Technician is required Reports to the Program Manager or Director This is an individual contributor role with no supervisory responsibility Must complete all required safety training and be prepared to respond to emergency intervention needs Environmental conditions include constant movement around the facility, time spent sitting and using a computer station, periods of concentrated work, telephone use, paperwork, and exposure to some outdoor weather and environmental conditions How to Apply Visit http://www.sunstreet.org for an application.
