Job Title:
Medical Assistant Job Description The Medical Assistant provides high-quality clinical and administrative support in a cardiac practice, ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and exceptional patient service. This role focuses on back-office responsibilities such as rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, managing electronic medical records, and coordinating appointments and referrals while supporting providers and enhancing the overall patient experience. Responsibilities Prepare patient charts so they are complete and ready for physician encounters, ensuring test results, recent documentation, and relevant information are available and accessible to providers. Greet patients in a courteous and professional manner, escort them to the appropriate exam or treatment room, and assist in identifying their medical concerns or reasons for visit. Obtain and document vital signs accurately and prepare patients for physician examinations, including securing appropriate consent forms, assisting patients onto the examination table, and helping them with removing clothing as necessary. Complete all required charting and documentation promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Perform EKGs as needed in support of cardiac care and provider orders. Instruct and/or schedule patients for tests, procedures, and follow-up visits as requested by the medical provider, ensuring patients understand instructions and next steps. Document all telephone communications with patients and other healthcare professionals in accordance with policy and procedure. Participate in quality control activities, including monitoring expiration dates on medications, adhering to sterilization criteria, and maintaining required logs as outlined in policies and procedures. Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms to support efficient patient care and provider workflow. Participate in patient education by reinforcing materials and instructions provided by the medical provider to promote patient understanding and adherence. Schedule patients for diagnostic testing, procedures, and specialist referrals as required, ensuring accurate and timely coordination. Process paperwork such as transcription, outside medical records, and chart forms, ensuring documents are complete, organized, and properly filed. Coordinate with other support staff and departments, including surgery scheduling and ancillary testing, to support comprehensive and timely patient care. Clean and maintain medical equipment and patient care areas, and assist with ordering and managing medical supplies as requested. Process unchanged prescription refills according to established policy and procedure. Attend required OSHA and nursing-related meetings and trainings, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of safety and clinical standards. Maintain a clean, orderly, and well-organized work area at all times. Accurately complete all required EMR functions, including data entry, documentation, and order processing. Provide professional, responsive customer service to patients, families, providers, and colleagues throughout all interactions. Essential Skills Current Medical Assistant (MA) certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). Minimum of 2+ years of recent back-office Medical Assistant experience. Proficiency in obtaining and documenting vital signs. Experience performing EKGs in a clinical setting. Ability to accurately use and navigate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish. Strong customer service skills and professional communication with patients and healthcare teams. Ability to follow clinical policies, procedures, and quality control standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a cardiac or cardiology setting is highly beneficial. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail in documentation, scheduling, and handling patient information. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other support staff. Comfort with patient education and reinforcing provider instructions. Reliability and punctuality to support consistent clinic operations. Work Environment This role is based in a cardiac clinical setting supporting a heart institute, with a focus on patients receiving cardiology-related care and testing. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the possibility of occasional Saturday shifts at some sites. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, requiring frequent interaction with patients, providers, and multidisciplinary staff. You will work with electronic medical record (EMR) systems, EKG equipment, standard vital sign monitoring devices, and other routine clinical tools. The position involves regular movement between exam rooms, assisting patients physically as needed, and maintaining clean and organized clinical areas. The dress code requires gray scrubs, reflecting a professional and consistent clinical appearance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Bernardino, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
