Duties include rooming and prepping patients, assisting physicians with procedures, securing medical records, maintaining biopsy logs, maintaining medical supplies inventory, and performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Verifies patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.- Prepares patients for examination.
- Prepares exam rooms for physician's use by ensuring that appropriate supplies, equipment, and instruments are available and ready. Maintains exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Assists physicians with procedures. Performs routine and special procedures within skill level/certification per physician's order (i.e., changes dressings, applies unna boots, removes sutures, performs peels, assists with excisions of lesions as directed by Doctor, and records notes in EHR, as needed.)
- Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using disinfectants or autoclave, as required, following established procedures.
- Collects specimens per visit protocol or provider's order (i.e., excisional specimens from patients); properly labels containers and forwards them to the laboratory for analysis. Verifies lab order has been completed accurately and on biopsy log.
- Prints out "Demographics" from the patient's medical record to accompany the specimen to the lab.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Uploads and assigns photos with proper site labeling and attached to the correct patient chart
- Maintains accuracy on biopsy log
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock and communicates with supervisor of any missing supplies
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and providing notification when repairs are needed.
- Learns the sample closet, and provides samples to patients when asked. Requests samples, as needed, and contacts representatives on Sample Directory if needing any.
- Translates when able and necessary, being careful not to have side conversations with patients or misinterpret the meaning of translation.
- Reviews lab slips and biopsy log regularly and follows up on pending results, if assigned.
- Assists with answering phones, verifying insurance, scheduling appointments, and making reminder calls, when assigned.
- Assists with checking patients in and out when assigned.
- Displays a professional behavior at all times (manner, dress, language, treating all patients equally).
- Assists with light box treatments
- Seeks new ways to improve operations and add value to the practice.
- Assists with other duties, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Highschool graduate or equivalent
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program
- Patient-focused with strong verbal communication, infection control, and organizational skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Pay Range:
$19-20/hour with potential for pay increases every 6 monthsPay:
