About Dr. Beddow Dr. Beddow is a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist who has been practicing in the Bay Area for over two decades. In addition to caring for pregnant women and their families, Dr. Beddow treats patients for gynecologic concerns, infertility, irregular bleeding, post-menopausal issues, annual exams, and general women's health needs. Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dependable Medical Assistant to join our OB/GYN office. The ideal candidate is smart, friendly, caring, and kind, and enjoys helping patients feel comfortable and well cared for during their visits. This role includes rooming patients, taking vital signs, assisting during exams and procedures, maintaining accurate medical records, and supporting the physician and office team throughout the day. Because we are a small office, this person must be able to collaborate well with others, communicate clearly, and be willing to help where needed. We welcome experienced Medical Assistants as well as certified gap-year students interested in gaining meaningful clinical experience in women's health. Responsibilities Greet patients and escort them to examination rooms Room patients and prepare them for visits with the physician Record patient medical history and vital signs Update and maintain patient information in the electronic health record Assist the physician during examinations and office procedures Collect specimens and assist with routine laboratory testing as needed Administer medications or injections as directed by the physician, if qualified and permitted Prepare, clean, and restock exam rooms between patients Sterilize medical instruments and equipment Provide patients with basic education and instructions as directed by the physician Help maintain patient comfort, privacy, and confidentiality Assist with phone calls, patient questions, and appointment scheduling as needed Support efficient patient flow throughout the day Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment Collaborate well with the physician, front desk staff, and other team members in a small-office environment Qualifications Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required Current Medical Assistant certification required; CMA or RMA preferred OB/GYN or women's health experience preferred, but not required Experienced Medical Assistants and certified gap-year students are welcome to apply Experience with Epic or other electronic health record systems preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Friendly, caring, kind, and professional demeanor Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements Basic knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures Excellent organizational and multitasking skills Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work well as part of a small team Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds Ability to assist with patient mobility as needed Work Environment This position is in a cozy, small OB/GYN office setting in San Mateo. Schedule Hours are generally 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, four days per week, with a lunch break. Compensation Compensation depends on experience.
