Job Description

Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a Hospital Medical Assistant. The Emergency Department Hospital Medical Assistant (HMA) will be responsible for responding to all air rescue transport calls. EMS will provide an ambulance to respond to all incoming and outgoing helicopter transports. The HMA will be dispatched by the Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) or the Base Physician. The HMA will be expected to assist in the emergency room during downtimes when they are not dispatched to calls by the MICN or base physician. These other duties should never prevent the HMA from rapidly responding to a call.

Job Duties :
HMA main responsibility will be to rapidly respond to incoming or outgoing air rescue calls. Ensuring the ambulance is available for pick up and drop off. No other duties or activities shall supersede this responsibility. The HMA reports to the Overall Charge Nurse each shift. Establishes viable working relationships with nursing and provider staff. Check in with the OCN and the MICN at the beginning of each shift and obtain Spectralink phone from previous shift HMA member. Write name and phone/pager number on the white board in Base Station. Continuously available and visible in the emergency room, including both triage areas, router, and Trauma Bay to assist with patient care within their scope of practice (e.g., BVM, CPR, stocking, etc.). Assist with vital signs on incoming ambulance triage patients. Assists with moving patients to gurneys or wheelchairs as needed. Escorts patients to RME/Triage areas. Perform minor wound care such as dressing change, irrigation, suture removal. Assist with splinting of extremities. Setting up procedural trays. Transporting non-monitored patients to X-Ray. Assist patients in and out of their vehicle in the front of the Emergency Room entrance. Escort pediatric patients from router to Pediatric Triage area. Assist with patients (e.g., vital signs, place on monitor and/or O2 as directed, linen needs, etc.). Check Fluid Warmer and restock (if needed). Assist in stocking cabinets and equipment carts in rooms (if needed). Stock IV carts as needed. Cleans and dresses gurneys as needed. Assists with patient care activities as directed and within HMA's scope of practice. Driving the ambulance to transport patients from/to helipad and ER ambulance entrance.
Requirements :
Valid current California Driver's License Current/valid EMT Certification (non-restricted) Current/valid AHA BLS Certification Demonstrates appropriate clinical knowledge to evaluate an ill-appearing patient and prioritize patient needs Demonstrates excellent communication and problem-solving skills Able to work as a team member and take direction well
