Medical Assistant Qualifications:
Minimum requirement of successful completion of Medical Assisting Program/School, National Certification is preferred. Current CPR/BLS certification.
Skills or Other Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills, basic knowledge of computers, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment.
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
Perform patient care services including, but not limited to, gathering intake information, rooming patients, collecting data (vital signs, medication reconciliation, spirometry), accurate documentation in EHR and timely patient flow. Ensure priority of care is provided to patients in an emergency situation. Ensure patient is appropriately prepared for provider encounter. Assist healthcare providers with testing procedures, treatments and testing as directed Provide patient instructions for tests and treatments. Provide patient and family education pertaining to healthcare management, disease process, treatment, test(s), medication and follow-up, under direct supervision of health care provider. Notify patients of lab and diagnostic test results under the direct supervision of the health care provider.
Essential Responsibilities:
Perform the following basic competencies: Provision of age-specific care, completion of general job specific competencies through annual skills review and any additional specific competencies. Greet patients appropriately and escort them to the exam room. Take patient histories, vital signs, prepare patients for exam, testing or treatment. Accurately documents actions and the patient's response in EHR. Manage all aspects of patient appointment including setting priorities, organizing testing and treatment process. Anticipate, initiate, and coordinate prescriptions/orders/referrals. Maintain the exam rooms, injection areas, and nurse's lab. Monitor drug samples and supplies to ensure an adequate supply that is within the expiration date. Assist health care team with testing procedures, treatments and education. Demonstrate professionalism as evidenced by positive problem solving, utilization of available resources, and respecting/acknowledging team effort. Participate in own professional development by identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance and educational resources. Willingly and effectively uses input from others for individual growth. Demonstrates ability to give and receive feedback. Assist others in developing their skills, knowledge and abilities. Serves as mentor for new staff during orientation and continue as a role model, mentor and resource to all staff in the practice.
