The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Clinic, located at 79 Retreat Ave on the 4th floor of the Brownstone Building, is a specialty ambulatory clinic that provides care to 95 CF patients virtually and in-person. The clinic follows the guidelines of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) which states that each patient has 4 visits per year with a multidisciplinary team at an accredited center. The clinic adheres to the 4 visits per year per patient as well as scheduling other visits as needed.
Job Summary:
The medical assistant (MA) plays a vital role on the CF care team and is a key contact for the CF community. The CF MA role requires someone who can work well independently and in a team atmosphere, has excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, is motivated, willing to learn, and seeks opportunities for improvement. The MA is responsible for providing a variety of multi-skilled services combining their administrative and clinical knowledge. Some of the administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to: greeting, arriving, checking in/out the patient on clinic day, obtaining consents, scanning, proficient use of electronic medical records (EPIC) and CF data system (PORT CF), scheduling and confirming appointments, assisting patients where to obtain testing including COVID testing and vaccines, answering CF line, triaging calls to appropriate team members, obtaining prior authorizations, contacting pharmacies for refills. Some of the clinical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: partnering with CF team to ensure CF infection control guidelines are followed by staff and patients, obtaining vital signs (temperature, height, weight, BP, oxygen saturation), updating medication list, cleaning and stocking of exam rooms/clinical areas, monitoring of clinic workflow during clinic, participating in quality improvement projects, attending team meetings. Qualifications Bilingual in Spanish required. High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification OR relative experience In lieu of education requirement, at least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered. Relevant experience or MA externship in a busy medical office.
EPIC EMR
preferred. Certified BLS to be obtained through employment provided RQI training. To be completed 3 months (90) days of hire or job transfer. All required credentials to be maintained throughout employment. This position is located within a busy outpatient ambulatory care clinic setting. Must be able to multitask, possess outstanding communication and follow up skills. Must be capable and willing to cover administrative front office staff depending on the department's needs: scheduling appointments, answering telephones, signing in and discharging patients, copying and faxing Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
