Position Summary:
The Mohs Medical Assistant supports the Mohs Surgeon and Dermatologists in delivering high-quality patient care while contributing to efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience. This role requires strong clinical skills, professionalism, adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced surgical dermatology environment. Mohs Medical Assistants are expected to actively contribute to surgical workflow, maintain professionalism under pressure, communicate effectively with patients and coworkers, and support overall operational success. This position requires travel between assigned clinic locations in coordination with the Mohs Surgeon's schedule Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities Assist Mohs Surgeons with surgical procedures, sterile setup, and patient preparation Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields, instruments, and procedure trays Assist with surgical closures, bandaging, suture removal, and wound care education Maintain surgical, medication, and supply inventories and communicate ordering needs appropriately Educate patients on post-operative care instructions as directed by the Provider Coordinate and transport necessary supplies, equipment, and materials between assigned clinic locations, as needed Prepare and maintain examination and treatment rooms Assist Providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments Obtain and document patient medical history, vitals, and clinical information accurately within the EMR Collect, label, and process specimens appropriately Perform diagnostic testing, as applicable Prepare and administer medications as directed by Providers (excluding controlled substances) Process prescriptions and medication refill requests per Provider instructions Initiate and process prior authorizations as assigned Process incoming voicemails, messages, tasks, and faxes within expected timeframes Monitor expiration dates and properly discard expired medications or samples Maintain infection control and aseptic technique standards Perform routine equipment maintenance and maintain required logs Assist with cleaning, organization, and overall maintenance of clinical areas Follow OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and company compliance standards at all times Operational Expectations Maintain active participation in clinic workflow throughout the workday Support efficient patient flow, room turnover, and Provider readiness while maintaining patient safety and high-quality care standards Demonstrate awareness of overall clinic operations and proactively assist where needed Assist teammates during high-volume clinic operations without requiring direction Anticipate Provider and patient needs to support efficient workflow Balance clinical and administrative responsibilities while maintaining productivity and attention to detail Demonstrate a sense of urgency appropriate for a fast-paced medical environment Adapt positively to scheduling, staffing, operational, and workflow changes Support different Providers, locations, or workflows as needed for operational coverage Complete assigned tasks, follow-up items, and documentation in a timely manner Travel with assigned Mohs Surgeon to designated clinic locations based on surgical schedule Professionalism & Communication Maintain professional communication and composure during stressful or high-volume situations Demonstrate emotional maturity and professionalism when addressing challenges or conflict Accept coaching, feedback, and redirection professionally Contribute positively to team morale and workplace culture Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and consistency in daily responsibilities Treat patients, Providers, and coworkers with professionalism, empathy, and mutual respect Use appropriate medical terminology and professional telephone etiquette Adapt communication style to meet patient needs and level of understanding Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and adherence to scheduling expectations Adhere to all timekeeping and time clock procedures Limit personal phone use to approved breaks and emergencies Remain actively engaged in assigned responsibilities throughout the workday Training & Development Expectations Complete all required onboarding, compliance, and training modules within designated timelines Participate in ongoing education, team meetings, and mandatory training sessions Demonstrate initiative in learning Suncoast workflows, systems, and clinical protocols Utilize training resources, EMR training environments, and educational tools provided by the organization Maintain required certifications and competencies for the role Legal & Compliance Responsibilities Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate documentation practices Release patient information only in accordance with company policy and applicable laws Practice within the scope of education, certification, training, and individual competency Conduct oneself in accordance with the Suncoast Employee Handbook and company policies Maintain awareness of current healthcare regulations and & Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required Medical Assistant diploma/certification preferred Dermatology and/or surgical assisting experience preferred, but not required Experience with EMR systems and medical office workflows preferred Strong customer service and communication skills required Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment Ability to travel between clinic locations regularly
