The MA performs both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and compliance with managed care protocols and quality metrics.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Prepare examination rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness for patient visits. Escort patients to exam rooms, verify patient identity, obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, and medical history in the electronic health record (EHR). Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments as needed. Administer immunizations, injections, and medications under the providers supervision and according to state and clinic policy. Perform EKGs, vision tests, and other diagnostic screenings as required. Collect and process lab specimens; ensure proper labeling and documentation. Maintain accurate and timely charting in the EHR, ensuring all information is complete prior to provider review. Conduct pre-charting and ensure all required documentation, lab results, and preventive care items are updated prior to visits. Participate in care coordination, follow-up on provider orders, referrals, and test results. Support patient education on chronic disease management, preventive care, and treatment plans.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Manage patient check-in/check-out procedures when needed. Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Ensure all messages contain complete information for provider review (symptoms, duration, medications, etc.). Schedule, diagnostic tests, and follow-up appointments as directed. Maintain medical inventory and order supplies as necessary. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Performance Expectations:
Accurately complete pre-charting prior to patient appointments. Follow up on patient messages and care coordination tasks within designated timelines. Demonstrate adherence to managed care protocols and quality indicators (HEDIS, Stars, etc.). Maintain a professional demeanor and contribute to a positive patient experience. Always ensure HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Exceptional customer service skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow. The ability to administer injections.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of one year work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant. Experience with phlebotomy is preferred. Medical Assistant Certification is required.
Physical Requirements:
May require prolonged period of standing, walking and bending. Ability to move/lift up to 20 pounds at times. Must be able to move/assist with moving patients.
