Job Summary As a Dermatology Medical Assistant, you are the backbone of the patient experience. You will work side by side with our Dermatology providers, assisting with everything from routine skin checks to intricate surgical reconstructions and advanced laser treatments. We are looking for an experienced Dermatology Medical Assistant whose enthusiasm and expertise will directly enhance patient care and clinic efficiency. In this vital role, you will perform clinical and administrative tasks that ensure smooth clinic operations. Your proactive approach will help deliver exceptional patient experiences, from intake to follow-up, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of dermatologic treatments, patient care, and the unique needs of Mohs surgery patients.
Responsibilities Clinical Support:
Greet patients warmly, room them, capture accurate medical histories, and scribe for the providers within our EMR system (EMA/ModMed). Support dermatologists during procedures by handing instruments, applying topical medications, or assisting with biopsies and other skin treatments.
Surgical Assisting:
Assist in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and other surgical excisions (setup, numbing, suturing assistance, and bandaging).
Cosmetic Excellence:
Prepare patients for aesthetic procedures, including Botox, fillers, and Fotona laser services.
Patient Education:
Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures, ensuring comfort, assisting with basic dermatological assessments, and providing clear post-operative instructions and education on our curated skincare lines (ViveMD).
Lab & Sterilization:
Manage specimen processing, biopsy logs, and ensure surgical instruments are sterilized to the highest standards. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment.
Documentation:
Manage patient documentation meticulously, including ICD coding for accurate billing and recordkeeping.
Coordination:
Collaborate with team members on patient care plans, medication prior authorizations, and follow-up instructions to ensure comprehensive treatment delivery.
Biologics:
Coordinate with provider and patient to enable biologic starts and switches, using Tandem/Forus to manage the prior authorization process. Skills Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Dermatology Medical Assistant required Preference will be given to Pre-PA (Physician Assistant) track applicants Strong knowledge of dermatology terminology, procedures, and experience assisting with Mohs surgeries preferred Proficiency in EHR systems (EMA/ModMed experience preferred) Experience with Tandem/Forus to manage biologic prior authorizations Excellent patient service and communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and empathetically across diverse populations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in fast-paced environments High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant certification preferred. Bilingual in English & Spanish is a plus
