- Full-time We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly skilled Pathologists' Assistant (PA) to join our laboratory team.
In this role, you will be responsible for the macroscopic examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens (grossing) and assisting with postmortem examinations. You will work closely with our pathology medical staff to ensure accurate, high-quality diagnostic reporting in a collaborative laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities Surgical Pathology:
Perform macroscopic description, dissection, and triaging of a wide variety of surgical specimens ranging from simple biopsies to complex tumor resections.
Autopsy Service:
Assist pathologically with postmortem examinations, including external examination, evisceration, organ dissection, and dictation of findings.
Specimen Preparation:
Select and submit appropriate tissue sections for microscopic examination, frozen sections, and special studies (e.g., flow cytometry, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics).
Quality Assurance:
Maintain strict adherence to laboratory protocols, safety standards, and quality control procedures. Ensure proper maintenance of grossing stations, equipment, and instruments.
Collaboration:
Act as a technical resource for laboratory staff and coordinate with pathologists to ensure clear, precise diagnostic documentation.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Graduation from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program is highly preferred.
Certification:
Active certification as a Pathologists' Assistant by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) , or immediate eligibility to take and pass the exam within 6 months of hire.
Skills:
Exceptional anatomical knowledge, precise dissecting technique, strong dictation/communication skills, and proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS).
