UPMC Passavant is hiring an experienced Medical Assistant to support our Colorectal Surgery Department at the McCandless location. This is a patient‑facing role in a fast‑paced specialty environment, ideal for MAs who enjoy working both independently and as part of a large care team. Why This Role? Responsibilities:
Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations and maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Obtain and process lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. Complete necessary forms and schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and manage patient charts. Perform front office tasks as needed. Prepare and clean patient rooms and equipment according to protocols. Maintain inventory and restock supplies. Organize patient flow and assist patients with various needs. Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings. Relay instructions to patients and families. Answer calls and provide patient education. Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information. Comply with regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) along with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures •Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. •Perform other duties as assigned. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years of Medical Assistant experience Experience with high‑level disinfection of scopes• Prior Epic Care experience•Can be taught
Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
