Job Title:
Surgery Center Medical Assistant Schedule:
Full-Time Clinic Hours:
Monday-Thursday 6:30am-5pm
Reports To:
Clinical Manager /
Office Manager Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports the clinical and operational functions of the surgery center by assisting nursing staff, physicians, and patients throughout the perioperative process. This role is responsible for maintaining patient flow, preparing clinical areas, obtaining patient information, assisting with pre-operative tasks, and ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Support Prepare patients for procedures by obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medical history updates Assist with patient intake and room preparation Escort patients to and from clinical areas as needed Assist nursing staff with pre-operative and post-operative patient flow Perform EKGs, bladder scans, urine collection, and other delegated clinical tasks within scope Assist providers and nurses during patient care activities as directed Ensure patient comfort and maintain patient dignity throughout care Surgery Center Operations Prepare and stock patient care areas, bays, and procedure rooms Maintain adequate clinical supplies and notify leadership of shortage Assist with room turnover and cleaning between patients Ensure equipment is cleaned and properly stored Help maintain efficient patient flow throughout the day Assist with opening and closing duties Documentation & Communication Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) Communicate effectively with nurses, providers, anesthesia staff, and front office personnel Report patient concerns or abnormal findings promptly to licensed staff Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times Safety & Compliance Follow infection prevention and control policies Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, AAAHC, and surgery center safety standards Participate in daily huddles, drills, staff meetings, and quality initiatives Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment
Qualifications:
Highschool diploma or equivalent required. 3+ years of relevant experience preferred. Experience working with Allscripts PM and EHR preferred. Familiarity with Providerflow or similar fax management systems is a plus.
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
Work Environment:
Standard office and clinical environment. Must be able to be active and mobile for an eight hour period. Must have the ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds or transfer and transport patients.
