The Medical Assistant is a part of the team concept which is dedicated to the delivery of primary care in an ambulatory setting. The Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the physician. The Medical Assistant also assists the RN, LPN and clinical staff in performing their duties required in accordance with SCPCC's policies and procedures. This position requires basic medical knowledge, organization and business skills. In collaboration with patients and staff across all disciplines and departments is responsible for performing selected clinical duties including administrative/clerical duties and basic patient care. The Medical Assistant is a part of the team concept which is dedicated to the delivery of primary care in an ambulatory setting.Employment Status:
Hourly -FSLA Non-Exempt Status Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Accurately interviews patients and records patient history, and measures and records vital signs such as height, weight, BMI, current medications, pulse oximetry level, and patient comfort level. Collects, performs, documents, and reports results of CLIA waived lab tests including, but not limited to: urine dip, pregnancy tests, finger stick blood glucose levels, fecal occult blood tests, rapid influenza tests, and rapid strep tests. Collects, prepares, and documents specimen collection including, but not limited to: blood, urine, stool, and sputum. Performs clinical duties as assigned including, but not limited to: preparing patients for examinations and /or treatments, assisting provider with exams or procedures, setting up exam or procedure rooms, and preparing instruments for sterilization. Prepares charts per the provider's schedule. Administers medications and injections as ordered. Dismisses patient at end of clinic visit. Participates in orientation of new employees and attends mandatory meetings. Works as a team member, interacting with staff, patients and providers to communicate and coordinate patient care and workflow effectively. Works at other locations to fill in during staffing shortages as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.Primary Accountabilities:
Completing all direct and indirect care documentation in a timely manner and ensuring patient records are current and complete. Attending daily patient care huddles, meetings, patient conferences, or planning sessions. These may be related to quality assurance, patient care and other related topics. Attending seminars and maintaining all licensure and/or certification requirements for continuing education and best practices. Participating in quality strategies to evaluate compliance with evidence-based guidelines and standards and identifying opportunities to improve patient outcomes. Ensuring all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including Standard Operating Procedures and South Central Primary Care Center Inc. Policies and Procedures. Developing and maintaining favorable internal relationships and partnerships with co-workers, including clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers, and business office staff. Interacting respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, striving to develop favorable relationships with patients and their families. Collaborating with all members of the care team in providing patient-centered care.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of activities associated with the delivery of quality Medical Assistant duties. Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of clinical medical equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of specimen collection and processing. Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with tools, technology, and systems typically found within most health care environments (i.e. personal computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing, patient records systems, EMR systems, etc.). High level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service. Requisite skills and ability to perform certain medical tasks as assigned Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Typical Working Conditions:
Frequent contact with staff, patients, and the public. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in a normal office environment. Work may be stressful at times and may require occasional evening or weekend work.HIPAA Disclosure:

Additionally, the position ensures and adheres to strict confidentiality when handling patient information, according to the HIPAA Privacy Act and supporting GAPHC policies and procedures.Reporting Relationship:

None Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program. Must hold current medical assistant certification. At least 2 years of clinical experience in an outpatient/ambulatory setting. BLS certification required. Knowledge of medical procedures, which relates to patient education and health practice. Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills. Excellent phone etiquette.Physical Requirements:
