I. Definition Primary Care of Southwest Georgia (PCSG) is searching for a Certified Medical Assistant for our Thomasville office located in Thomasville, GA. Performs various duties that support patient care and is an integral part of the patient care team. Performs duties within scope/under supervision to the fullest extent to maximize patient care including but not limited to patient telephone assistance for clinical issues from the business office, patient medical history, vital signs, patient education, procedure prep, office procedures, injections, vaccines, in-house labs, venipuncture, stocking rooms and cleaning and disinfection patient care equipment. II. Roles & Responsibilities A. Clinical Duties
- All Clinical Staff may function in the roles of: Provider Nurse, Patient Care Advocate, Lab Specialist, and Referral Specialist. When structured workflow are compromised, all clinical staff's primary focus is patient care and movement through the office. Providers should always have a patient worked up and ready to be seen if a patient is checked in.
- Schedules and coordinates patient/provider appointments.
- Assists providers with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures.
- Reviews patient charts, checks patients in, obtains and records patients' weight, blood pressure, urine samples, blood samples, and medical history, and assesses reasons for patient visits.
- Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions.
- Perform a variety of pre-examination work on patients; observe patient condition; record patients' medical histories and immunizations; administer blood pressure, hearing tests, vision tests, urinalysis, EKG's, PFT, Dexa scan and other pre-examinations as necessary; measure patients' height and weight; prepare patient charts and record pertinent information.
- Administers medications; applies sterile dressings.
- Maintains and stocks inventory of office and/or clinical supplies, as appropriate to the position.
- Educates patients regarding health-related issues.
- Coordinates labeling, delivery, and receipt of laboratory specimens and results; provides information and coordinates follow-up visits regarding laboratory results.
- Maintain stock and order laboratory supplies.
- Documents QI indicators in E-Clinical.
- Arranges appointments for radiology test and procedures.
- Monitors and maintains GRITS inventory. Performs monthly inventory count and submits to VFC (as assigned).
- Collects information from patient telephone calls, provides information to the patient's provider.
- Assist with immunizations and medication assistant program.
- Collects information for provider phone calls from hospital and other affiliates if provider is in room with a patient.
- Processes pharmacy prior authorizations.
- Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
