Job Description

Position Summary The Certified Medical Assistant supports the delivery of patient care in an outpatient setting by performing clinical, administrative, and technical tasks under the supervision of a licensed provider. This role requires initiative, teamwork, and effective communication with healthcare providers, clinical staff, and coworkers. The Certified Medical Assistant provides patient-centered care to individuals across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and applicable federal and state regulations. The role supports care coordination, quality improvement initiatives, and promotes a safe and efficient clinical environment. Responsibilities and Duties Assist providers with direct patient care, including vital signs, patient histories, and clinical procedures. Administer medications as ordered by a physician or mid-level provider. Document care accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and maintain organized patient records. Provide patient education, discharge instructions, and assist with coordination of referrals and follow-up care. Monitor patients for clinical changes and report concerns to the provider promptly. Maintain medical equipment, ensure exam rooms are properly stocked, and report safety or equipment issues. Uphold infection control standards and comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements. Support quality improvement and customer service initiatives. Communicate professionally with patients, staff, and external contacts. Promotes the principles of healthcare integration and the Patient- Centered Medical Home. Maintain punctual and reliable attendance to meet department needs. Qualifications Knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care practices in an outpatient setting. Knowledge of infection prevention and control, OSHA standards, and safe clinical practices. Knowledge of HIPAA, patient confidentiality requirements, and healthcare compliance standards. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, documentation requirements, and clinical workflows. Knowledge of medication administration principles, vaccine protocols, and basic pharmacology. Understanding of patient flow processes, care coordination, and customer service principles. Knowledge of quality improvement practices and Patient-Centered Medical Home concepts. Education High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required; certification through AAMA, AMT, or NCCT preferred. Current CPR/BLS certification preferred. Additional training in phlebotomy, EKGs, pharmacology, and diagnostic testing preferred. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an outpatient, primary care, or ambulatory care setting preferred. Experience performing clinical skills such as vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, injections, medication administration, and specimen collection preferred. Experience using electronic health record systems and standard office software is strongly preferred. Experience working with diverse patient populations and collaborating within a multidisciplinary care team preferred Physical Demands Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity required for patient care and equipment use. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds and assist with patient positioning or mobility as needed. Requires visual acuity for reading records, administering medications, and performing clinical tasks. Requires auditory ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Working Environment Work is performed in a primary care outpatient clinical setting. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and communicable diseases. May encounter patients who are physically or emotionally distressed. Requires flexibility with occasional extended hours or travel between clinic sites. Our story began in 1993 when University Hospital, the Richmond County Health Department, and the Richmond County Commission partnered to address gaps in care for underserved populations. Following a community needs assessment that identified significant health disparities in the 30906-zip code, the Neighborhood Improvement Project, Inc. was established in 1998 to expand access to essential healthcare services. Originally operating as Belle Terrace Health & Wellness Centers, MAP welcomed its first patient in 1999. Since then, the organization has grown significantly. Renamed Medical Associates Plus in 2016, MAP expanded to include multiple clinic locations and a mobile health unit. Today, MAP serves more than 50,000 patients annually across over 26 locations, delivering high-quality primary care to individuals and families throughout Greater Augusta and surrounding communities.
