POSITION SUMMARY
The CMA is responsible for supporting clinical and administrative operations within an outpatient psychiatry practice. This role includes assisting providers with patient care, responding to routine nursing-related patient inquiries within scope, and managing medication workflows, including prior authorizations. The CMA ensures accurate documentation, maintains efficient clinic flow, and supports coordination between patients, providers, pharmacies, and insurance companies. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This is a full-time position, working a minimum of 32 hours per week. This is an in-office position. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Room patients and assist with intake, vitals, and documentation Answer basic nursing and patient care questions within scope Process and manage medication prior authorizations Call pharmacy about medical clarifications Contact patients when needed and work collaboratively with physicians Assist providers with medication management workflows Coordinate with pharmacies, insurance companies, and patients Maintain accurate and compliant medical records Support front office and clinical operations as needed Assures all work performed is done in accordance with OSHA safety standards and those established by Balanced Psychiatry. Assures that all work performed meets Balanced Psychiatry's standards for customer service, accuracy, quality and efficiency. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, patients and visitors. Commits to company values and code of conduct. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required Minimum 2 years of clinical experience required Experience in behavioral health or psychiatry preferred Strong knowledge of medication workflows and insurance processes Ability to confidently answer patient questions related to care and medications Experience with prior authorizations for medications is required Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work is performed in a professional outpatient medical/psychiatry clinic setting. Frequent interaction with patients, including those experiencing mental health conditions. Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and standard medical supplies. Moderate noise level typical of a healthcare office.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, lifting, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping and finger dexterity, repetitive motions. Sitting approximately 10 percent of the time. Standing approximately 45 percent of the time. Walking approximately 45 percent of the time. Requires the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force continuously. Up to 50 pounds of force infrequently to lift or otherwise move objects.
VISION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read and interpret electronic health records, prescriptions and insurance documentation. Close vision required for computer work, data entry and reviewing patient charts. Ability to distinguish colors (e.g. medication labels, alerts in EMR system). Sufficient visual acuity to safely perform clinical tasks and operate standard office equipment.
