The Medical Assistant Apprentice is a student currently enrolled in an approved MA program who is employed in a non-certified capacity under the direct supervision of a Certified Medical Assistant. Participants will achieve clinical and administrative skills necessary to become a Certified Medical Assistant, which will include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a designated healthcare provider.
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks and patient care activities, gathers vital signs, collects non-invasive body fluid specimens, and documents as needed Completes online coursework Attends weekly labs Demonstrates and adheres to the Kootenai Health Code of Conduct and Ethics Performs other related duties as assigned Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent required Must be enrolled and in good standing in a state approved MA Program by Kootenai Health Orientation program Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Phlebotomists preferred Upon completion of the program, CCMA required Experience working in medical office preferred Working knowledge of medical terminology, confidentiality, HIPAA and electronic health record systems preferred BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS within 60 days of hired

Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position Typical equipment used in a clinical job Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
