Certified Medical Assistant (MA) needed for ambulatory surgery center in the Rush University Medical Center complex. About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center team. In this role, you will support our medical and surgical staff by providing high-quality, compassionate care to ambulatory surgical patients. The ideal candidate is dependable, professional, and experienced in a clinical or surgical setting. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Greet and identify patients; escort patients to pre-op, post-op, or exam rooms. Verify purpose of visit, collect medical histories, and record vital signs. Observe, document, and report patient conditions. Assist physicians during examinations and procedures. Prepare patients for surgical procedures and explain processes clearly. Operate or assist with clinical equipment and safely transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher. Order and collect lab specimens; ensure pathology/lab results are properly filed. Sterilize medical instruments and prepare operating/procedure rooms. Administrative Duties Answer phones and provide professional, supportive communication. Assemble and maintain medical records following unit standards. Call prescriptions into pharmacies as directed. Maintain a clean, organized work environment and equipment. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma required. Minimum 3 years of experience in a surgical or clinical environment. Experience using electronic medical records (EMRs). MA certification required. Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of surgical preparation and clinical workflows. Ability to follow safety procedures and infection-control standards. Excellent communication, professionalism, and teamwork skills. Ability to manage patient interactions with empathy, respect, and confidentiality. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Self-directed with the ability to work independently. Professional Expectations Demonstrates competence in all designated skills and attends required training. Maintains professional appearance and courteous, cooperative behavior. Ensures a positive, respectful, and supportive experience for patients, families, and coworkers. Handles conflict professionally and accepts feedback constructively. Protects patient and company confidentiality at all times. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Frequent use of hands, reaching, bending, and kneeling. Must occasionally lift/move up to 40 lbs. Requires full range of vision and ability to perform repetitive motions (e.g., computer use).
