Optometric Technician Position Summary:
Eyecare Associates is seeking a caring, dependable, and detail-oriented Clinical Assistant / Optometric Technician to join our patient care team. This is a hands-on clinical role where you will work directly with patients and doctors throughout the eye exam process. You will help gather important medical information, perform preliminary testing, use advanced diagnostic technology, and help create a smooth, welcoming experience for every patient. No prior eye care experience is required for the right person. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates well, learns quickly, and takes pride in doing meaningful work that supports patient health. Learn more about paraoptometric certification here: AOA Paraoptometric Certification Commission on Paraoptometric Certification Key Responsibilities The Clinical Assistant helps prepare patients for their eye exam and supports the doctor throughout the clinical visit. Responsibilities may include:
Welcoming patients and helping them feel comfortable during the exam process Recording the patient's chief complaint, medical history, medications, allergies, family history, social history, and review of systems in the Electronic Health Record Performing visual acuity testing, pupil testing, binocular vision screenings, visual field screening, and other preliminary exam testing Accurately documenting exam findings and clinical observations Performing ocular imaging and diagnostic testing, including technology such as OCT, fundus photography, and other specialized testing Assisting with contact lens orders, patient instructions, and follow-up care coordination Helping coordinate specialist referrals when needed Communicating clearly with doctors, optical staff, front desk team members, and patients Supporting efficient patient flow while maintaining a caring and professional patient experience Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma or equivalent Strong communication skills Comfort using computers and learning new software Ability to work well with patients and team members Preferred but not required: Previous experience in healthcare, eye care, or customer service Some college coursework Familiarity with medical terminology Experience using an Electronic Health Record system Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The ideal candidate will be: Friendly, professional, and compassionate Detail-oriented and accurate with documentation Able to learn clinical testing procedures and medical terminology Comfortable using technology and diagnostic equipment Organized and able to manage multiple patient-care tasks A strong communicator who works well as part of a healthcare team Respectful of patient privacy and confidentiality Motivated to grow professionally and improve over time Work Environment This position is in a private optometric office serving patients of all ages.
