Shift 4 pm - 4 am About us We are a reputable healthcare provider dedicated to delivering exceptional medical services to a diverse community at the Vanderburgh County Jail. We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate C ertified Medical Assistant to support the healthcare team by safely and accurately administering prescribed medications to incarcerated individuals in a correctional facility. The role ensures compliance with all applicable regulations while maintaining the safety and security of the facility. The Certified Medical Assistant collaborates with medical staff to monitor patient outcomes and provides compassionate care in a secure environment. Job Responsibilities:
Preparation and Medication Administration Prepare, verify, and administer medications to inmates according to prescribed schedules and orders; Orders refills as needed. Ensure proper documentation of medication distribution, refusals, and any adverse reactions in compliance with PCUSA and Vanderburgh County Jail policies, i.e.: cheeking, lack of identification band. Scan medications into the EMR that are received from partner pharmacy. Monitoring and Reporting Counts dosages and documents the number of narcotics at the beginning and end of each shift. Maintains and cleans medication cart, refrigerator, and work area. Report any adverse reactions or changes in medical conditions promptly to nursing or medical staff. Maintain accurate records of inmate medication histories, to include narcotic records and medication delivery sheets. Report unsuccessful administration(s). Compliance and Security Follow all correctional facility protocols and ensure adherence to state, federal, and facility-specific regulations regarding medication handling. Attends/completes required in-services and other required meetings. Collaboration and Communication Assist with MAT program after medication pass is completed. Communicate effectively with medical staff and correctional personnel regarding inmate health or medication needs. Meets with supervisory staff to report, review, and discuss medication administration process and participate in review response, including but not limited to, report preparation, response to data collected from 24-hour medication audits and other performance improvement activities related to medication administration, problem identification and corrective actions. Support Services Assist with healthcare tasks, such as taking vital signs, conducting urine tests, or preparing patients for medical evaluations, restocking rooms, under supervision. Take inventory of over-the-counter medications and report needs to Admin Assistant or nursing supervision. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (required). Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or equivalent (required per state regulations). Experience in a correctional, healthcare, or behavioral health setting (preferred). Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements. Current CPR/First Aid certification (preferred). Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations. Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations. High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality. Basic computer skills for electronic health record (EHR) documentation. $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
