MEDICAL ASSISTANT APPRENTICESHIP

POSITION SUMMARY

Practice Manager Summary:

Observe performance of staff as they complete administrative and certain clinical duties. Administrative duties observed may include scheduling appointments, FMLA, Prior Authorizations, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes. Clinical duties observed may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and administering medications as directed by physician. Completion of a rotational schedule in multiple outpatient clinics may be required. Candidates are responsible for attending the DCMH sponsored Medical Assistant (MA) Training Program and fulfilling all of the necessary requirements set in place by a third party curriculum.

Work Schedule:

Must be able to work non-standard work hours. 16-week program consisting of two 4-hour classes as well as two 8-hour shifts per week. This schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the class/clinics. Must be able to attend classes two evenings a week from 6:00pm-10:00pm.

Education High School Diploma or GED Experience No experience necessary Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility. Certificates & Licenses N/A Other Requirements This program consists of 16 weeks of on-the-job training and classes plus a medical assistant externship. 128 classroom hours and 160 clinical hours (80 per the third party education requirement plus an additional 80 hours required by DCMH) are required. This position requires constant standing, walking, use of hands and fingers, lifting and carrying 0-20 lbs and pushing and pulling 0-12 lbs. Upon completion of the program, an additional year commitment of employment with Decatur County Memorial Hospital will be required. If candidates fail to meet this commitment, repayment of the value of education is required per educational reimbursement policy.
