 Days Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services. FLSA Status Non-Exempt Job Role Summary The Certified Medical Assistant II provides patient care which takes into account patient response to the care provided, patient needs, problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals. Alters activities/behaviors to ensure adequate care appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e., pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric). Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable populations of Marion County.   • Maintains a safe patient/clinic environment; practice is in compliance with Eskenazi Health's safety standards
  • Demonstrates good communication skills using appropriate medical terminology
  • Exhibits legal and ethical professional conduct, follows organizational/site-specific protocols/processes
  • Provides patient care which takes into account patient response to care provided, patient needs, problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals. Alters activities/behaviors to ensure adequate care appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e., pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric)
  • Integrates cultural/population specific diversity needs into patient care as well as integrating physiological, psychological and cultural needs
  • Measures and records vital signs, heights, weights, other parameters including pain assessment
  • Interviews patient and records history, chief complaint, other findings
  • Calls prescriptions (except Schedule II medications) to pharmacy for the provider per written orders
  • Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests including EKGs
  • Assists provider with exams and minor office procedures
  • Collects and processes lab specimens including phlebotomy
  • Monitors follow-up of tests and lab studies done and notifies provider
  • Performs point-of-care testing, including pertinent quality control testing, documenting results
  • Prepares and administers medications (with exceptions per organizational or site-specific guidelines) with provider written order
  • Demonstrates competence/accountability in the administration of medications, treatments, performing tests
  • Changes/applies dressings, removes sutures, other minor procedures
  • Performs CPR when needed
  • Accurately, legibly, legally documents findings, services provided (including medication administration), education/instructions given, completes other required documentation
  • Cleans rooms after each patient exam
  • Answers phones/makes phone calls as needed/directed
  • Helps maintain clinic flow
  • Operates standard office equipment
  • Schedules appointments
  • Maintains supplies and equipment (stocking/ordering) including routine stocking of exam rooms
  • Alters activities/behaviors to provide population-specific and age-specific care
  • Maintains required certifications (organizationally and as required by site)
  • Assists with the orientation of other staff members including Medical Assistant Externs
  • Must sit together with Clinical Team Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from an education program for the medical assistant required
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant and 2 years of experience required
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is preferred)
  • Current TB Education certification is preferred
PRIMARY CARE ONLY
- At the direction of health center leadership, the individual may be required to travel to other health center locations to provide coverage for continuity of operations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to potentially dangerous/infectious materials and situations Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center's primary mission is to serve individuals with serious mental illness and chronic addiction as well as seriously emotionally disturbed children and their families.
Patients of all ages are welcomed, from children to seniors, with a philosophy of care that stresses strength-based and family- and community-centered treatment utilizing the Recovery Model of treatment.
