This position is responsible for patient intake, vital signs, phlebotomy, laboratory support and serves as a liaison between the front desk staff, the providers, and the nurses in the provision of care. Duties and responsibilities Works in harmony with others, exhibits a positive attitude and commitment to the health center mission. Actions show commitment to team effort, works well with others, supports group objectives, and participates in staff meetings and team problem‑solving Consistent patient-centered, caring disposition is a must for this position Performs daily exam room inspection, ensuring supplies are adequately stocked for patient care Interviews patients to obtain medical information including list of current medications and allergies; obtains vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse and blood pressure readings; Records information into EHR Performs procedures as directed by medical provider including but not limited to EKG, peak flows, ear lavage, minor procedures, dressing changes, vision and hearing screenings Administer vaccines and injections to patients Assists with laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, various dipsticks, urinalysis, hematocrit, glucose screening Assists medical providers with procedures, exams and treatment of patients Maintains exam rooms, keeping equipment clean, sterilized and rotated Maintains adequate supplies of linens, medical equipment, paper supplies needed for daily clinical operations Relieves other departments as indicated; provides coverage when necessary Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to professional certification, patient confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA, patient treatment & safety guidelines Performs other related duties as assigned or requested Qualifications High School graduate or equivalent Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant course training Certificate of graduation and proof of certification On-the-job training, with previous experience in a health care environment strongly preferred Ability to learn/navigate computer systems such as an electronic health record system and Microsoft Office; generally technology-savvy Strong Verbal communications skills and ability to communicate ideas successfully Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships Agrees to uphold Heartland's guiding values of Compassion, Respect, Collaboration and Integrity Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job Personal maturity, cooperation, and ability to communicate clearly Ability to remain calm when under pressure High energy, positive, ability to work autonomously, flexibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and high degree of initiative Working conditions Potential exposure to infection and contagious diseases, and unpleasant patient or unit elements Fast-paced, high stress environment with frequent interruptions Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions Requires dealing with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people and other conflict situations Frequent walking, sitting, standing throughout the day Requires use of hands to grip, handle, control or feel objects, tools, controls Requires standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting Occasionally lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds Physical requirements Requires repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over Requires walking Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls Requires bending or twisting Requires standing and walking Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds Details Hours M - F from 7:30 am - 5 pm as needed.
