JOB TITLE
District Medical Assistant
SUPERVISOR
District Health Coordinator and Assistant Superintendent

BASIC FUNCTION
This position provides direct health services under the direction of licensed nursing staff and assists with district medical records.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Provides care to students and staff who need emergency care due to injury or who present with an acute illness.
Assists faculty and staff in monitoring chronic medical conditions.
Obtains parental consent for health services.
Assures that school district policies and procedures adhere to legal and regulatory statutes and ethical standards of medical practice.
Addresses potential health problems that are barriers to learning or symptoms of underlying medical conditions by coordinating and assisting with mandated screenings, i.e. vision, hearing, and scoliosis. Initiates referrals according to state and school policies.
Assists in staff educational in-services (but not limited to), i.e. CPR training, OSHA bloodborne pathogen, and infection control updates.
Monitors immunizations and reports communicable diseases as required by law. Reviews immunization records for compliance to state laws and school policies.
Promotes health awareness activities such as fairs for staff and families; consultation with other school staff, i.e. food service personnel or physical education teachers, regarding healthy lifestyles and staff wellness programs.
Assists in the collection of health data and submission of health reports to LHD for immunization and KDE for school health services.
Provides case management by communicating with the family through telephone calls, written communication, and home visits as needed.
Observes, evaluates, and reports to physicians, with parental approval, the pupil's health status and any reaction at school to drugs or treatments prescribed by the physician; interprets to the physician those factors or environments that might affect the child's condition.
Provides consultation to teachers and school authorities on appropriate use of records of each child's health needs and interprets these needs to teachers, parents, and others.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Screen students for vision, hearing and dental problems, identify needs, and recommend appropriate actions

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
and peripheral vision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Prior work experience in a medical field preferred
Must possess a valid Kentucky driver's license.
Has met the requirements for criminal records check and child abuse and neglect check as specified by Kentucky State Law
Must have or be willing to obtain CPR certification
Must meet health requirements as specified in district personnel policy
