GENERAL PURPOSE
Demonstrates commitment to the quality philosophy and values of the organization by maintaining established policies and procedures, organizational objectives, process improvement, and safety standards. Demonstrates courtesy in all interpersonal relations. Greets patients and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner. Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients' arrival, being aware of delays and communicating with patients and staff. Schedules appointments, routes calls, take messages, and returns calls as needed.
Responsible for pre-certification and authorization of medical tests. Follows compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines of federal and state programs with an emphasis on prevention of fraud, waste, and abuse. Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended. Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measures vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and documents, all the information is in the patient's chart. Obtains, verifies, and records the health history of patients. Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples. Ensures all related reports, labs, prescribed medicines and related information is filed in patients' medical records. Administers medications, education materials and treatments as directed. Communicates physician advice/instructions as directed within scope of practice.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent, required. Previous experience working in a medical office environment, preferred. Minimum computer competency preferred and/or ability to be trained. MA certification preferred but not required. CPR certification through AHA is required.
Equipment Operated:
Phone, computer, medical charts, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and other nursing items. May involve use of walkers, wheelchairs, pulse oximetry, and oxygen tanks.
