Full Job Description Medical Assistant Qualifications/Skills:
The Audubon Family Medicine Medical Assistant is an effective communicator and confident in his/her skills and abilities. S/he is a team player and able to work in a fast-paced environment, and is able to diffuse conflict when it arises. The Medical Assistant is self-directed, but able to work independently. The Medical Assistant demonstrates initiative and is proactive in ensuring patient needs are met in accordance with clinic standards. The Medical Assistant also demonstrates the following:

  • Customer-oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledgeable of medical terminology
  • Fluency in Spanish desirable Medical Assistant Job Description Verifies patient information by interviewing patient Records vital signs and medical history, reconciles medication list, and confirms purpose of visit Secures patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Completes diagnostic and procedure coding Assists with medical procedures Administers SQ/IM injections and breathing treatments; performs urine tests; collects oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs Counsels patients by re-iterating provider's recommended plans of care and supporting evidenced-based practice
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patient anxieties and answering patient questions
  • Maintains clinical inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment service and repairs
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications
  • Maintains operations, and serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, facility policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements, and reporting needed changes
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed (ability to flex as immunization nurse or medical receptionist if staffing requires) Maintains cleanliness of the exam rooms and hallway including standard disinfection practices between patients and end of the day custodial care Medical Assistant Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Associates degree preferred 2+ years' experience in a medical office Experience with EHR (electronic health record) and medical terminology Experience with EKG desirable Previous experience in family medicine clinic preferred Yearly HIPAA and bloodborne pathogens training (provided)
