ABOUT IBERIA COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CENTER
Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center (ICCHC) and its satellite health centers are the leading providers of primary health care services in the communities we serve, including individuals who are both insured and uninsured. ICCHC provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive health care services, including medical care. Our medical department provides a full array of medical care including, but not limited to women's health exams, men's health exams, diabetes care, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, chronic conditions, laboratory services, physical examinations, and referrals for specialty care. ICCHC is currently seeking a full time Certified Medical Assistant for its Leesville, LA location.
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
This position will handle critical administrative tasks, including prior authorizations, referrals, reviewing patient messages, prescription refills, and more. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and Medical Director, the Certified Medical Assistant renders safe nursing care to patients. The Medical Assistant performs venipunctures, urinalysis, CBG's and assist in the lab as needed in addition to standard Medical Assistant duties. The CMA must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, education, safety and related criteria for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population. Duties also include taking vital signs, administering oral, IM, SC Meds per MD orders, sharing responsibilities for referrals, and call-backs when appropriate. This position exists to support timely and accurate assembly and analysis of Medical Records. The Medical Assistant will be primarily responsible for responding to requests from attorneys, physicians, insurance companies for copies of the medical record. The Medical Assistant is responsible for responding to Community Care referrals, request from emergency room and other physicians.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High School Graduate. Graduate of state approved Medical Assistant school. Current license as a Medical Assistant in the State of Louisiana.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Six months previous medical office experience required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
The CMA should possess basic knowledge of nursing processes and principles, biology and chemistry and basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. The CMA should possess thorough knowledge of medical procedures and pharmacology drugs.
