Description:
The Lead Medical Assistant provides clinical support to the Director, Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and other clinical staff members within the Radiation Oncology Department. They serve as the liaison between the medical assistant staff and the nursing manager. They assist in the development of training material, ordering/stocking of supplies, championing process improvements, monitoring workflow/unit work queues, and onboarding clerical employees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies. Demonstrates self-directed initiative and seeks opportunities to enhance operating performance. Maintains knowledge and ability to perform all duties of the medical assistant job role. Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.) Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork. Supervises and assists with the training of all Medical Assistants. Provides oversight of the medical assistant's workload and provides guidance to staff when needed. Reports weekly to Nurse Manager regarding work volume, issues with systems, and any staff concerns. Assists in the creation of training manuals and job aids that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Assists in quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Prep patients for any/all procedures performed in the office and chaperone as needed. Conduct training sessions with the clinical team for all new processes. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values and policies of SJMH. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
High school diploma required
Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in medical office, with at least one year performing as a medical assistant. Previous billing /authorization experience preferred. EPIC experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
CPR REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
