Certified Medical Assistant Hollen Family Medicine Grand Rapids, MI Job Details Full-time $14 - $20 an hour 20 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification CCMA Certification Filing Medical scheduling High school diploma or GED Medical assisting Grammar Experience Medical terminology Full Job Description Medical Assistants are essential members of the Patient-Centered Medical Home team. Medical Assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the medical office and often explain the provider's instructions. A general medical assistant job description will include, but not limited to: Administrative Duties (may include but not limited to): Using computer applications Answering and making telephone calls Greeting patients Updating and filing patient medical records Coding and filling out insurance forms Scheduling appointments Arranging laboratory and radiology services Handling correspondence Clinical Duties (may include but not limited to): Reports to Practice Manager Takes medical history Explains treatment procedures to patients Prepares patients for examination Assists the providers during exams Collects and prepares laboratory specimens (i.e. Pap/HPV samples, tissue/pathology samples, urine specimens, etc.) Draws blood Performs in-house waived testing, after they are quality controlled, which may include some or all of the following: pregnancy tests, hemocue/Hemoglobin, glucometer, urine dip, hemoccult-stool, oraquick, or throat swab. Each test will be done according to directions/procedure and results logged in patients' medical record. Instructs patients about medication and special diets Gives instructions to patients as instructed by provider Prepares and administers medications/vaccinations as instructed by the provider Authorizes prescription refills as directed or per protocol Performs minor procedures as directed by the provider (electrocardiograms, removing sutures and changing dressings as directed, ear irrigations, etc.) Ensures all related reports, labs and information is filed and available in the patients' medical records prior to their appointment Keeps exams rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintains instruments, prepares sterilization as required Takes telephone messages and provides feedback and answers to the patient/provider/pharmacy Triages and processes messages from patients and front office staff to providers Maintains all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, samples, oxygen, etc.) All other duties as assigned by the
Practice Manager or Medical Director/Owner Medical Assistant Essential Job Functions:
Work Environment- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands- This is largely an active role, however, some filing and inventory management is required. This would require the ability to move files or inventory, open filing cabinets, and bend, twist or stand, as necessary. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs Must be able to hold/lift patient in order to assist them to or onto exam table. Must be able to sit and/or stand periodically during the workday. Computer data entry is a large portion of job duty. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach, etc. when operating office equipment
Knowledge:
Medical assistants must have a knowledge of: Healthcare field and medical specialty Medical terminology Grammar, spelling, and punctuation Knowledge of EHR (preferably EPIC)
Skills:
Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette Ability to maintain effective communication and organization to ensure timely patient flow The ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections/vaccinations
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred Registered and Certified Medical Assistants must maintain current RMA/CMA certification Current CPR certification
