Job Description

Who We Are:
Aliveness Project is a community center for people living with HIV. We serve over 5,000 folks annually, the majority of whom are low-income. The Aliveness Project boldly advances equitable access to transformative HIV care and prevention. Our primary objectives are to ensure that our members have access to:
  • Basic needs: We provide meals, a food shelf, and medical nutrition therapy while our Case Management team helps provide access to healthcare and housing.
Community:
Our community center model provides a safe and supportive place for members to gather and build community.
    Prevention:
    We provide a community-based free PrEP/STD Clinic, pharmacy, and targeted outreach to communities disproportionately affected by HIV through education, awareness, and strategies for eliminating stigma.     Position Title :
    Medical Assistant - PrEP & HIV Clinic Reports to:
    RN Manager Job Summary:
    The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital part of our patient care team, supporting high-quality, stigma-free healthcare services for individuals receiving PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), HIV testing, HIV treatment, and related sexual health services. The MA provides compassionate and culturally responsive support to clients across the spectrum of sexual health and HIV care. This role focuses on clinical support duties such as vital signs, phlebotomy, test processing, administrative support, and community engagement, and is essential to ensuring seamless client experiences at the clinic.
    Major tasks include:
    Clinical Support (60%)
    • Prepare and room clients for appointments.
    • Take vital signs, health histories, and document relevant clinical information in the EMR.
    • Perform phlebotomy and collect/prepare specimens for STI, HIV, and other lab testing.
    • Administer routine tests, including HIV rapid tests and urine collection for STI screening.
    • Assist providers during procedures and exams when needed.
    • Restock exam rooms and maintain clean, organized clinical spaces.
    • Follow infection control protocols and maintain proper disposal of biohazard waste. Administrative & Client Engagement (30%)
    • Schedule appointments, provide reminders, and support follow-ups.
    • Coordinate with pharmacies for PrEP refills and medication management.
    • Assist with MNSure Navigation, Program HH.
    • Communicate lab results and provider instructions to patients under supervision. Program Support & Community Health (10%)
    • Support community outreach events, mobile clinics, and testing events as needed.
    • Assist in data entry, quality improvement initiatives, and reporting.
    • Promote resources related to PrEP, HIV prevention, STI treatment, harm reduction, and Thrive Rx. Other
    • Participate in staff meetings, regular supervision and organization wide efforts as requested
    • Other duties related to the role as assigned.
    Qualifications:
    Commitment to Aliveness' mission of HIV education, prevention and destigmatization. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants. Current CPR certification. At least 1 year of clinical experience in primary care, infectious disease, or sexual health settings. Phlebotomy experience. Proficiency using electronic medical records (EMR). Commitment to harm reduction, sexual health equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and racial justice.
    Preferred:
    Bilingual in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong. Familiarity with PrEP navigation or HIV care coordination. Lived experience in or understanding of communities disproportionately impacted by HIV.
    Compensation:
    Salary range is $48,000 - $56,000 based on experience.
