Lee's Summit, MO Position Summary
  • The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and the clinical team in the evaluation, management, and delivery of professional medical care in a busy multi-specialty practice.
The person in this role will perform a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization, and communication. This position will have the opportunity to make a difference in our patients' clinic experience; we are looking for someone who has a positive attitude, strong customer service skills and is eager to be a team player. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Coordinate and choreograph patient care, room patients and prepare them for examination
  • take vitals and health history.
Pre-plan the daily patient schedule; have all documentation, supplies, etc. ready for the provider. Documenting history; recording and reporting pertinent observations and patient reactions to staff, as appropriate; documenting lab procedures and ensuring follow up on results and documents all care provided to the patient utilizing the EMR system and scan/download documents Speak with patients regarding scheduled tests and test results as indicated from charts after review by physician. Make telephone calls to patients regarding physician orders and/or prescription medications ordered by the physician. Assist with cast/splint removal, suture removal and/or dressing changes. Explain procedures/surgeries, tests and care preparation as needed for adequate patient education. Sterilize equipment before and after treatment and properly dispose used containers and items. Respond to phone calls/requests from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and other medical offices. Assist providers with special procedures and examinations as needed. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stock assigned areas and ensure par levels of supplies are maintained. Specifications/Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection control, etc.). Confidence and maturity are essential personal characteristics. Candidate must be able to function in a team setting, be detail oriented, possesses excellent customer service skills, and be flexible as needs arise. Typical Physical Demands
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with , dressing, etc. There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Work Environment

  • This is an hourly full-time position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week; hours may vary. Education
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program through an accredited organization preferred. Experience and training as a medical assistant with demonstration of appropriate competencies may be accepted in lieu of completion of medical assistant program. Work Experience
  • Minimum two years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred; orthopaedics experience preferred. Prior experience working with EPIC a plus. Certification
  • Medical Assistant Certification required: National Association for Health Professionals; National Health career Association; American Medical Technologists; American Association of Medical Assistants.
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Safety/Risk-Management Program Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities Maintains responsibility for safe work area by reporting to safety officer or designee observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure Reports observed or suspected medical emergencies, notifies appropriate personnel, and responds appropriately Identifies facility emergency situations (e.g., fire, disaster) and notifies appropriate personnel and external agencies 6. Professional Competence Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences Shares knowledge gained in continuing education with staff Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations and/or maintains certification with relevant certifying body Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities Welcomes suggestions and recommendations
