Job Title:
Medical Assistant Job Description This Medical Assistant role supports a single physician by providing comprehensive clinical care to a high-volume panel of adult and geriatric patients, primarily ages 55 and older, with a focus on underserved populations. You will perform full patient workups, including history gathering, vital signs, blood draws, and medication reconciliation, while ensuring each patient receives respectful, efficient, and compassionate care during their visit. Responsibilities Room approximately 18-22 patients per day for one physician, with patient appointments scheduled in 30-minute intervals. Perform full patient workups, including collecting complete previous medical history and updating current health information in the medical record. Obtain manual vital signs accurately and document them promptly in the electronic medical record (EMR) system when applicable. Perform blood draws using both straight needle and butterfly techniques, ensuring proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and handling. Draw blood safely and effectively from adult and geriatric patients, including those with more challenging venous access. Conduct thorough medication reconciliation by reviewing all current medications with patients and updating records to reflect accurate dosages and frequencies. Prepare exam rooms and ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained for patient visits. Support the physician during patient visits by anticipating needs and facilitating smooth patient flow throughout the day. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient documentation in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards. Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to an underserved, primarily 55+ patient population, treating all individuals with dignity and respect. Follow clinical protocols, safety procedures, and infection control guidelines to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. Essential Skills Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic. Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draws using both straight needle and butterfly techniques. Ability to obtain and record manual vital signs accurately. Strong skills in collecting and documenting comprehensive medical histories. Experience performing medication reconciliation with attention to detail and accuracy. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification. High school diploma or equivalent education (GED). Graduation from a nationally accredited program in Medical Assisting, Patient Care Technician, EMT, or Paramedic. Ability to manage a high daily patient volume while maintaining quality and efficiency. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with adult and geriatric patients. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow clinical protocols and safety standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus. Experience working with underserved patient populations is highly beneficial. Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting with back-to-back patient appointments. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks throughout a busy clinic day. Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and needs. Work Environment This role is based in a busy outpatient clinical setting that serves a primarily 55+ patient population with a focus on underserved communities. The schedule typically runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with patient appointments scheduled at 30-minute intervals and an expectation of rooming 18-22 patients per day for one physician. You will work in exam rooms and clinical areas equipped for phlebotomy, manual vital signs, and routine outpatient procedures, and you will use an electronic medical record (EMR) system where available to document patient information. The environment is fast paced and team oriented, requiring consistent professionalism, reliability, and adherence to clinical and safety protocols, including appropriate clinical attire suitable for direct patient care. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
